Frontier Data Hive · Legal
Privacy Notice
Effective 30 September 2026 | frontierdatahive.com
This Privacy Notice explains how Hive Data Services Ltd, trading as Frontier Data Hive ("we", "us" or "our"), collects, uses and protects personal data through frontierdatahive.com, user accounts, communications and related services (the "Platform"). We are the controller of that personal data unless a separate notice or business agreement states otherwise.
1. Scope and legal framework
This Notice applies to users and visitors worldwide. It is governed by and interpreted in accordance with English law and is prepared to the standards of the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the Data Protection Act 2018 and the Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003 (PECR), in each case as amended. Mandatory privacy rights that apply where you live are not excluded.
A customer organisation may separately control personal data that it provides to us or processes through a business account. Where it acts as controller, contact that organisation first about its processing.
2. Personal data we collect
| Category | Examples |
|---|---|
| Identity and contact | Name, organisation, role, email address, telephone number, and country or region. |
| Account and subscription | Login details, account ID, plan, permissions, billing status and transaction records. Payment-card details are normally handled by our payment provider; we receive a token and limited payment information. |
| Technical and device | IP address, device and browser type, operating system, identifiers, security logs, cookie choices and approximate location derived from IP. |
| Use and preferences | Pages, searches, clicks, session activity, saved settings, watchlists, portfolios or interests you choose to provide, and engagement with our messages. |
| Communications | Support requests, complaints, survey responses, marketing preferences and correspondence. |
| Advertising and analytics | Cookie or device identifiers, campaign information and inferred interests where permitted. |
| Public and third-party | Publicly available professional or company information, and data from service, data, security, analytics, advertising and identity-verification providers. |
We do not ordinarily need special-category personal data. Please do not provide it unless we specifically request it and explain the lawful basis and safeguards that apply.
3. How we collect data
- directly from you when you browse, register, subscribe, set preferences, contact us or respond to a survey;
- automatically through cookies, pixels, logs and similar technologies;
- from your organisation where it provides or manages your access; and
- from public sources and service, data, analytics, advertising, security and payment partners.
4. Purposes and lawful bases
| What we do | Lawful basis under UK law |
|---|---|
| Provide accounts, subscriptions, requested content, personal settings, billing, support and service messages. | Performance of a contract; steps requested before a contract. |
| Operate, secure and troubleshoot the Platform; prevent fraud, misuse and unauthorised access; enforce our terms. | Legitimate interests in providing a reliable and secure service; legal obligation where applicable. |
| Analyse optional product-use events to improve the Platform when this feature is enabled. | Explicit opt-in consent. |
| Recommend, rank or personalise content using your settings and activity. | Performance of a contract or legitimate interests in making the Platform relevant to users. |
| Send product news, offers and event information and measure campaigns. | Consent where required; otherwise legitimate interests, always subject to your direct-marketing objection right. |
| Display and measure advertising and share relevant identifiers with advertising partners. | Consent where required by PECR or other applicable law. |
| Meet legal, tax, accounting, regulatory and dispute-resolution requirements. | Legal obligation; legitimate interests in establishing, exercising or defending legal rights. |
Where we rely on legitimate interests, we assess the purpose, necessity and impact on you. You may object as described below. Where data is required by contract or law, failure to provide it may prevent us from supplying the relevant service.
5. Personalisation and automated processing
We may use account activity, preferences and model-generated signals to organise or recommend content, detect unusual use and improve analysis. These processes may affect what you see. We do not currently make decisions about you based solely on automated processing that produce legal or similarly significant effects. If that changes, we will provide the information and safeguards required by law.
6. Cookies and similar technologies
We use strictly necessary technologies to operate and secure the Platform. Optional PostHog US Cloud product analytics is currently disabled and requires explicit opt-in before collection when enabled. PostHog may use the request IP to derive approximate location and then discard the raw address. The stored event excludes names, email addresses, raw account IDs, search text, full URLs, page text and financial values. Advertising remains disabled. Our Cookie Notice identifies the technologies, providers, purposes and durations. You can withdraw consent or change non-essential choices through Cookie Settings.
7. Marketing and advertising choices
You can object to direct marketing at any time by using the unsubscribe link in an email or contacting info@choosehive.com. We may still send necessary account, security, billing and service messages. Cookie Settings lets you withdraw consent for non-essential technologies; the choice normally applies to the browser or device on which it is made.
8. Who receives personal data
We disclose personal data only where reasonably necessary to:
- cloud hosting, cybersecurity, communications, support, analytics, advertising, payment and professional-service providers that support our operations;
- data and content partners where needed to provide licensed services or investigate misuse;
- a customer organisation that provides or administers your business account;
- regulators, courts, law enforcement or other parties where disclosure is required by law or reasonably necessary to protect rights, safety or security; and
- a buyer, investor, lender or successor in connection with a proposed or completed financing, reorganisation or business transfer, subject to appropriate safeguards.
We do not sell personal data for money. Where enabled and permitted, advertising partners may receive device, cookie and usage identifiers for advertising or measurement, subject to the consent or opt-out controls required by applicable law.
9. International transfers
We and our service providers may process personal data in countries outside the United Kingdom. Where a restricted transfer is not covered by UK adequacy regulations, we use an appropriate safeguard, such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or the UK Addendum to the EU standard contractual clauses, and carry out any required transfer risk assessment. We may rely on a statutory exception where legally available. Contact us for information about the safeguard relevant to your data.
10. Retention
We keep personal data only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes above, including legal, accounting, security and dispute needs. Our standard approach is:
- account, subscription, billing and material support records: while the account is active and generally for up to six years afterwards;
- routine technical and security logs: generally for up to 24 months, unless an incident or legal need requires longer;
- marketing records: until you opt out or the record is no longer useful, with a minimal suppression record kept to respect your choice; and
- cookie data: for the period stated in the Cookie Settings tool.
- optional detailed product-analytics events held by Hive, if enabled after opt-in: up to 90 days; the allowlisted pseudonymous event projection in PostHog: up to 12 months; minimised pseudonymous cohort facts: up to 13 months; non-identifying aggregates: up to 24 months. Withdrawal stops future collection; earlier events remain until the applicable limit or a separate erasure request.
We may retain data longer where required by law, needed for a claim or investigation, or technically held in secure backups until overwritten. We may keep de-identified information that no longer identifies you.
11. Security
We use proportionate technical and organisational measures designed to protect personal data, including access controls, monitoring, encryption where appropriate, secure development practices, resilience measures and supplier oversight. No internet service is completely secure. You should use a unique password and protect your credentials.
12. Your rights
Subject to the conditions and exemptions in UK law, you may have the right to:
- ask for access to, correction of, deletion of or restriction of your personal data;
- receive certain data in a portable format;
- object to processing based on legitimate interests, and object absolutely to direct marketing;
- withdraw consent at any time, without affecting earlier processing; and
- complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
To exercise a right, contact info@choosehive.com. We may request information reasonably needed to verify your identity and respond. We may refuse or limit a request only where law permits and will explain our decision. Mandatory rights available under another applicable law remain available to you.
13. Children
The Platform is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect children's personal data through the Platform. If you believe a child has provided personal data, contact us so that we can investigate and take appropriate action.
14. Complaints
You may make a data-protection complaint by emailing info@choosehive.com. We will acknowledge it within 30 days, make appropriate enquiries without undue delay, keep you informed and tell you the outcome without undue delay. You may also complain to the ICO at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint. If another supervisory authority has jurisdiction where you live or work or where an alleged infringement occurred, you may also contact that authority.
15. Changes to this Notice
We may update this Notice to reflect changes in law, technology or our practices. We will post the updated version and change the effective date. We will provide additional notice, or seek consent, where required for a material change.
